Not bad, although you're missing the best player in NBA history and you've got the second best coming off the bench.

Starters: Kareem, Duncan, LeBron, Jordan, Stockton

Second unit: Hakeem, Garnett, Bird, Steph, Nash

Specialists: Moses, Kidd

This is a big statement, but I've done the numbers 100 times. From 1970-81, Kareem was more dominant than anyone has ever been for a 12-year stretch. He was unstoppable offensively and a better defender than he gets credit for being.

Bill Russell is the best defensive player in NBA history, but Hakeem gives me 99% of that defense with more offense. If I ever need to protect a lead in the fourth quarter, I can put Hakeem, Duncan, LeBron, Jordan and Kidd on the floor. Or I can just murder them by putting Steph and Bird in the corners and let LeBron and Jordan take turns running pick-and-roll with Kareem.

As a Michigander, leaving Magic off the team hurts, but I need a point guard who can pass, pass, and pass while making teams guard him at the 3-point line.

I really wanted Ben Wallace in the Moses spot, but his free-throw shooting was too awful. I started my journalism career covering the Bad Boys, so Rodman was also tough to leave off, but too much baggage.

Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone and Gary Payton all got consideration for spots, but no one from the 2004 Lakers is playing for me.

Actually, give me the 2004 Pistons, the 1989 Pistons and Grant Hill. I'll play Isiah, Dumars, Hill, Rasheed and Laimbeer half the game, then go with Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Rodman and Ben Wallace.

The first unit is just Isiah and Hill playing pick and roll with the other three guys shooting triples. The second unit would give up about 10 points a quarter. If someone tries to intimidate us, I've got Rick Mahorn on the bench and Vinnie Johnson for any extra offense.
